Lucky Langiappe Story

In a time when bad news is plentiful and the world is full of unknowns, we wanted to share the story of one Maple member who recently won $100 from the Lucky Lagniappe savings account.

Ms. Clay's Story

As she picked up her daughter from school on a cold day a few years ago she noticed a small child with no coat. This was her call to action-she felt the need to do a coat drive to help kids at that school who needed a coat.

The first year, she asked her friends to do it with her and she was able to provide 10 NEW coats to the Holy Family school.

The second year, she extended her solicitation for help and she had a couple of sponsors get on board yielding 100 NEW coats. These coats went to children at 2 Lafayette public schools JW Faulk and Alice Boucher Elementary schools.

This year, her drive yielded right at 90 NEW coats that went to Truman Montesorie in Lafayette and Northeastern in Opelousas. School staff at Truman shared with her that there were several students that identified as homeless. She felt the need to give them gifts because their circumstances pulled at her heartstrings and she is a giver by nature.

She was trying to figure out how she was going to go about getting them a small gift when she got the call from MAPLE credit union saying that she was one of this month’s Lucky Lagniappe winners of $100. Her immediate response was “God is so good! Let me tell you why” and she proceeded to share why this was so amazing. When talking to her she shared that she was teaching her children the importance of helping others that aren’t as fortunate. She said “What good is it if you have 10 gifts if there is a child out there with none?”

Ms. Rachelle Clay, we are so appreciative of your membership and your giving heart. Thank you for all you do.
